 PRESS RELEASE October 2, 2009

The Windsor Locks Athletic Club announces its 2009 Hall of Fame Class. The list of Inductees includes:

Carolyn Bravakis, outstanding long distance runner, was the 1977 National Champion in 30 k distance division. 

Bob Cressotti (‘75) was a two-sport athlete who played baseball at Eastern Connecticut University for four years.

Dave Farr has coached baseball for over 40 years, coaching Windsor Locks High for past seven years winning state baseball titles in 2005 and 2006.

Cathy Flander (‘89) was a three-sport athlete and a 1000 point scorer who played collegiate basketball at Brown University.

George Hall has been a volunteer coach for three decades in baseball and football.

Mike Mascaro (‘88) was a three-sport athlete and a 1000 point scorer in basketball.

The 1966 State Class M Indoor Track champions are also being inducted.

The induction ceremony will be held at the Bradley Sheraton in Windsor Locks on Friday, November 27. Tickets may be purchased at the First Selectman's Office in the Town Hall. The cost is $40 per ticket. For additional information, call 627-1444 or email the Park Office.

PRESS RELEASE October 14, 2008 

The Windsor Locks Athletic Club announces its 2008 Hall of Fame Class. The list of Inductees includes: Vinny Colapietro, Ted Netcoh, Pat Scelza, Steve Szykula, Sue Tremley and the 1966 State Champion Baseball Team.

The induction ceremony will be held at the Skyline Restaurant in Windsor Locks on Saturday, November 29. Tickets may be purchased at the First Selectman's Office in the Town Hall. The cost is $40 per ticket. For additional information, call 627-1444 or email the Park Office.

PRESS RELEASE September 24, 2007

Windsor Locks Athletic Club announces its third induction class to the Hall of Fame.
The class includes Larry Lichstein, Holly Storms (Muehlenkamp), Steve Scheerer, Russ Mattensen, Sr., and the late Elias "Spud" Shapiro. In addition, the 1963 and 1964 Boy's High School Soccer Teams will be honored.

Larry Lichstein (1967 graduate) was a left-handed bowler who was on the PBA tour from 1969 to 1974. He was chosen as the 1969 PBA Rookie of the Year by Sporting News Magazine.

Holly (Muehlenkamp) Storms (1979 graduate) was a three-sport athlete participating in field hockey, basketball and softball. She was selected to the All State Field Hockey Team in 1978. Holly was also a 1000 point scorer in basketball.

Steve Scheerer (1971 graduate) was a three-sport athlete participating in soccer, basketball and track. Steve still holds the school basketball record for scoring 47 points in one game. He went on to play both soccer and basketball at the University of Hartford.

Russ Mattensen, Sr. coached many sports, most notably, baseball. He was Assistant Coach for the 1965 Little League World Champions. He has coached Little League and American Legion Baseball for twenty years.

Elias "Spud" Shapiro was an outstanding athlete who coached high school baseball and basketball. In addition, he coached youth league in soccer, basketball and baseball.

The 1963 Boy's High School Soccer Team won the State Title in only its second year of existence. It was the school's first championship under the legendary coach Dan Sullivan. The 1964 Boy's High School Soccer Team went on to repeat the win for the State Title.

PRESS RELEASE September 26, 2006

Windsor Locks Athletic Club announces its second induction class to the Hall of Fame.
It includes Russell Jubrey Jr., Robert Morrell, Michael Collins, and Lori (Chapman) Longfritz and Michael Heneghan.

Russell Jubrey Jr. (1957 graduate) was a 4-year starter in baseball and basketball scoring over 1000 points in basketball. In a Hartford Courant poll taken in 2000, he was voted Windsor Locks Athlete of the Century.

Robert Morrell (1965 graduate) was an outstanding runner going undefeated in dual meets in the 100-yard and 440-yard dash. He set school records in outdoor track in the 100-yard dash, 220-yard dash, and 440-yard dash. He also set school records in Indoor track for both the 600 and 300-yard dashes. He won State Championship meets in the indoor 600-yard dash three times and outdoor in his junior and senior years in both the 100-yard and 440-yard dash. Bob later set both freshmen and varsity records for both the 220-yard and 440-yard dash at Springfield College.

Michael Collins (1989 graduate) was a four-sport athlete. In football, in both his junior and senior years, he was All Conference as a defense back. He later started for two years on defense for Towson State College. In basketball, he was All Conference for two years and made All State his senior year.

Lori (Chapman) Longfritz (1982 graduate) excelled in both soccer and track. In her junior and senior years, she was selected to the All Conference, All State, and All American teams. In 2003, she was among the inductees honored in the inaugural class of the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame. In both her junior and senior years, she held the school record for the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

Michael Heneghan (1965 graduate) was selected as a contributor to Windsor Locks sports. He remains a coach, an administrator, and an official for numerous sports. He has coached Little League baseball for 38 years and the sixth-grade All Stars in basketball for almost 30 years. He has coached rec and travel soccer for over 10 years. Michael continues coaching both baseball and basketball.

PRESS RELEASE October 27, 2005

The Windsor Locks Athletic Hall of Fame announces its inaugural class of inductees. At a ceremony to be held at the Sheraton Hotel at Bradley International Airport on November 26, 2005 the Windsor Locks Athletic Hall of Fame will honor Joseph E. Fitzpatrick, Carrie (Schiessl) Ghareeb, David Lingua, Dr. Peter Lingua, Robert Norris, Robert D. O'Connor, Daniel Sullivan, Craig Winter and the members and coaches of the World Champion 1965 Little League All Star team as the first inductees into the Hall. The Windsor Locks Athletic Hall of Fame was formed this year by a group of Windsor Locks citizens. Its goal is to honor the fine athletes and dedicated contributors who have lived in Windsor Locks or have a recognizable connection to athletics in the town. The ceremony on November 26, 2005 will include dinner and a celebration of the accomplishments of the inductees. Tickets are $40.00 and can be purchased at the First Selectman's office or by calling the Park and Recreation Department at (860) 627-1420. Contributions to defray the cost of the celebration can be made to the Windsor Locks Athletic Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 854, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
