Attention ConnPACE

Budget Crisis Affects Prescription Coverage

Recipients: Please be aware that as of June 1, 2009 no new prescriptions for non-formulary drugs will be covered under the ConnPACE program;  regardless of the Medicare Part D  plan you have chosen. Only prescriptions for non-formulary drugs written prior to June 1, 2009 will continue to be covered. All ConnPACE consumers are urged to speak with their physicians about any new prescriptions to ensure that they stay on-formulary if at all possible or run the risk of paying out of pocket.The CHOICES program at your local Area Agency on Aging can assist with information on alternatives and will keep you informed as to additional changes as they arise. Connecticut adults will have access to health care coverage at all income levels. The State of Connecticut is contracting with three private insurers to coordinate benefits and medical providers. Charter Oak will cover enrollees with pre-existing medical conditions (no exclusions).

The PPA Program

  • Helps patients in need who lack prescription coverage find ways to access prescription medicines.
  • Offers a single point of access to 475 public and private patient assistance programs, including more than 180 programs offered by pharmaceutical companies. Many patients may qualify to get prescription medicines for free or nearly free.
  • Provides assistance for more than 2,500 brand-name medicines, including a wide range of generics.
  • Helps patients contact government programs such as Medicaid, Medicare and SCHIP.
  • Assists Medicare beneficiaries with information about the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit.
  • America's Pharmaceutical companies support the requthorization of the State Children's Health Insurance Paln (SCHIP) and more than 40 of the assistance program focus on the medication and health care needs of children.
  • Informs patients about free health care clinics in their communities.

America's pharmaceutical research companies are working with doctors, pharmacists, other health care provides, patient advocacy organizations and community groups.
