A public information session to review the Main Street Complete Streets project plans has been scheduled for Thursday March 21, 2019 at 6:00 pm in the Ella Grasso Conference Room at Town Hall.

The plans for the Complete Streets project involve wide sidewalks, angled-in and parallel on street parking, lane narrowing and other traffic calming measures, installation of new decorative street lighting, crosswalks, bicycle lanes, and street trees. The engineering firm of Fuss & O’Neill, which has been engaged by the town to design the project in accordance with modern “Complete Streets” principles, submitted its full set of plans for the design to the Capitol Region Council of Governments and the Department of Transportation on March 7, 2019.

The first phase of the project is being funded by the State of Connecticut after the town was awarded a 2016 Local Transportation Capital Improvement Projects (LOTCIP) grant in the amount of $3 million dollars. That award has since been expanded to $3.6 million by CRCOG, which administers the LOTCIP grant program. The second phase of the project will be funded with the proceeds of a second LOTCIP grant in the amount of $2.5 million awarded in 2018.

A set of plans will be available for review prior to the public information session in the office of the First Selectman commencing Monday March 11, 2017.
