When it comes to refuse removal, it is important to keep one simple concept in mind.  Taxpayers pay to dispose of refuse.  Taxpayers don’t pay to dispose of recyclable material.  So the more material that goes in the blue recycle bin and not in the green trash bin, the more money you and your fellow taxpayers save.

In an effort to encourage increased recycling, you will begin to see some changes around town.  When the recycling program started, the green refuse bins were 90 gallon capacity and the blue recycle bins were 60 gallons.  The capacities are being reversed when new bins are issued due to damage or loss.  The green trash bins are now of the 60 gallon variety and the blue recycle bins will be the 90 gallon size.  For now, this change is only taking place as bins are replaced.  Many citizens have reported to us that their recycle bin in full more often than their refuse bin.  That is exactly what we like to see, so keep it up.  Please continue to make the effort to place all of your recyclables where they belong.  Not only is it great for the environment, but it saves us all some money.

If you have any questions about what materials can go in the blue recycle bin, please check out the Windsor Locks Public Works recycling webpage https://www.windsorlocksct.org/public-works/recycling.
