Connecticut Recycling Law requires trash containers be paired with recycling containers.  In an effort to be compliant, we have begun the transition from open containers to pairing trash and recycling toters in our parks.  Southwest Park is the first, with others to follow in the Spring of 2018.

The toters will allow for compliance with mandates, a reduction of employee injury risk in emptying barrels, an efficient means of collection, a positive sanitary condition and a reduction in animal activity in the cans.  The toter lids are restricted to keep lids in a partially closed condition ( to exclude water and animals) and still allow for incidental use by parks users.  The end result of this activity will be a cost savings for the Town by increasing our recycling rate and eliminating the need for dumpsters.
